About
David started his career at the age of 15 in 1976, experimenting, modifying and repairing his own electric and acoustic guitars. He started playing ukulele at age 5 and guitar at age 9. He loved working on his own instruments to make them play and sound better.
He went to the Karl Sandoval Luthier school in 1986 and received his certification in 1987. David started working for B.C. Rich guitars in 1986, eventually working his way up from the assembly department to wood shop foreman, making production line instruments, custom guitars and basses.
He worked for Fender Musical Instruments in 1989/90, on the production line tune testing and setting up guitars. During this time he also started his own business, C & E Guitar Works with his partner Ron Estrada as an OEM manufacturer of guitar and bass necks and bodies for Washburn, Charvel/Galletta and G.M.W Guitar works.
In 1994 he started at Yamaha Guitar Development as a Designer/ Master Builder. During his years at Yamaha (1994’ – 2000’) David designed custom instruments of all types, signature models for artists and new models for the consumer market.
In 2001 he started at the Fender Custom Shop. At the end of that year David was awarded Fender Custom Shop’s Employee of the year.
In 2003 David relocated to the big island of Hawaii to build his own String Instrument Manufacturing Facility. This is where David Cervantes Guitars Hawaii was launched in 2005. David is the sole owner of DCG where he designs and manufacturers all types of stringed instruments.
